Meeting Minutes for August 8, 2024

Agenda:

1. Moving forward with using BND to build OSGI plugins
2. Review for HEC-DSS Excel Add-in update submitted by HDR
3. Coordinating meeting with Can Dogrul to discuss IWFM and IDC

Open Action Items:

• Prepare level of effort, budget, and schedule to perform work for the following projects:
  • IWFM and IDC Automated Build System and Source Control
  • WRIMS 3 Development
• Coordinate meetings with Can Dogrul to discuss workflow and repositories for IWFM and IDC.

Discussions:

• Producing the OSGI plugins is carrying forward with using the BND tool configurations with Eclipse Luna.
  • BuildShip was previously identified to use with gradle projects. This is packaged with newer Eclipse versions starting with Neon and is expected to help with OSGI bundling later on.
  • Using BuildShip is not necessary for moving forward with building the OSGI plugins on GitHub.
• Tom has worked on a WRIMS plugin jar that is the "target" product of the build system.
  • Tom will be sharing this with @hxiedwr for review and feedback.
  • Feedback from @hxiedwr will help identify additional updates that will be needed for building the OSGI plugins.
• @hxiedwr noted that there are updates in the main branch of the wrims repository that still need to be cherry-picked into the wrims-devops branch.
• @hxiedwr recommended removing reference to the version for naming the jars under the wrims repository.
  • @hxiedwr recommends changing "wrims_v2" to "gov.ca.dwr.wrims" to be consistent with the naming of other jars for the wrims repository.
  • There may be issues with referencing the wrims jar.
• HDR has submitted a pull request for the HEC-DSS Excel Addin and assigned @adamkorynta for review.
  • DWR clarified that this signals that the updated HEC-DSS Excel Addin VBA code is ready to be prepared into a new installer. Code review of the VBA code is not necessary from RMA.
• @inazrul is interested in new technology and solutions for extracting data from DSS to Excel to move away from using installed add-ins for Excel.
  • This discussion was brought about by Can Dogrul asking whether installed add-ins for Excel will continue to be developed into the future. He also discussed that Microsoft now have com add-ins, which are written in javascript. The cloud-based add-ins cannot call external DLLs.
  • Can noted that in using the installer for the HEC-DSS Excel Add-in, he needs to re-install the add-in whenever he restarts Excel. @dwr-ycheng will be investigating this issue for Can.
  • @inazrul noted that he is aware that python scripting is being used within their group to work with DSS data.
  • RMA noted that they have experience working with python scripting to extract DSS data after @inazrul asked if RMA has experience with this. @adamkorynta also noted that there is an existing HEC product that works with extracting DSS data.
  • DWR will have an internal meeting to discuss HEC-DSS Excel Add-in and considering using python scripting instead.
• A meeting has been scheduled for August 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Can Dogrul to begin discussion for the workflow and repositories of the IWFM and IDC projects.
• @inazrul and @dwr-ycheng asked @dezidizon to follow-up with @rma-psmorris regarding communication regarding the CBC solver.
• @inazrul and @hxiedwr are happy with the schedule and target dates for completing the work for Phase 1 and producing the WRIMS 2.2 installer.

Closed Action Items:

• Coordinate meeting with @hxiedwr to go over process for building the WRIMS 2 installer and the manual process for creating patch releases.
