At the International Institute for Social History (IISH) there is a wish to have a proper thesaurus for subject terms. In the past, there was an existing thesaurus for audiovisual materials which exists only in pdf form. The terms of that thesaurus were imported by a previous IISH employee to an instance of Poolparty provided by NDE. Also, the cataloguers have been removing and editing terms from that thesaurus, and adding their own terms through the years via the library catalog (Evergreen). At this point, there is no clear overview of the status of use of subject terms at the IISH. Thus, in the context of the SSHOC.nl FAIR vocabularies task, DI is supporting in:
create an overview of the status of use of subject terms in the four sources (original AV thesaurus in PDF, thesaurus in Poolparty, subject terms in the catalog Authorities, subject terms in the catalog Bibliographic descriptions).
propose ideas about how to unify these terms into a single thesaurus, and how to maintain it.
support the process of publishing the thesaurus in the FAIR vocabulary registry and in Termennetwerk.
analyze if there are other sources of subject terms (e.g., Dataverse) and if the terms overlap with the other sources.
The output of this issue is:
a data report with existing terms and their overlap in the four sources
a document with advise on how to go about the next steps
