SAP Built in connector - SAP trigger - Significant decrease in throughput vs managed connector

I've migrated a workflow (in logic app standard) that was using the managed connector with a SAP trigger to the built-in connector.
I'm now noticing an substantial degradation in throughput (1 IDoc per second before, 1 IDoc per 8-10 seconds now) when sending out a batch of IDocs.
The workflow itself doesn't have longer duration (~800 ms on average)

I've checked the networking side by using tcpping, this gives a latency of a few milliseconds. Increasing the amount of instances also does not provide an improvement in performance.

When doing a RFC connection test from SAP the latency is a lot longer than a connection test on a managed connector RFC.

I've exhausted my options in trying to solve this issue, so if anybody can give some pointers to a possible cause/solution, I would be very grateful.
