AYAB software version: 1.0 Beta3, Beta3 fw
Computer/OS: Windows 11
Knitting machine: KH270
AYAB hardware: Interface

At first glance it appears that you can start from the right on a 270. But no.

  • the whole pattern is displaced, until after you have crossed a left turn mark.
  • an effect of this is that it appears to be failing to select the beginning of the first row. But even if you go slowly and wait for the beep, it will still not select at the beginning of the first row. When air-knitting a full-width repetitive pattern it may not be obvious that what actually happened was that the first row was displaced but it corrected itself because you passed the left turn mark. Or sometimes rather than displacement you get shadowing, where it repeats the image 12 needles over in the direction of travel.

Steps.
Open the uc3_30x15.png test image
Use needles L30-R30. This gives you just enough space to turn around between rows without crossing a turn mark, but enough needles to see the pattern displacement.
All settings at default.
(Optional: start from the left and verify that it behaves perfectly, putting the pattern from L15 - R15, whether or not you cross the turn marks.)

Start from the right.

  1. Bring the carriage across but only just clear of the needles so that neither magnet has crossed the left turn mark.
Expected: the first row should have selected needle L14 and 15
Actual: it has selected needles 26 and 27, displaced by 12 to the left.
  2. Knit row 2 to the right, again stop just clear of the needles.
Expected: the second row should have selected needle L14 and 15
Actual: it has selected no needles.
  3. Knit row to the left, again stop just clear of the needles.
  4. Same as row 1, it has selected 26 and 27
  5. Do a few more rows without crossing the turn marks
The pattern is mostly all displaced 12 to the left, but not even consistently so.
  6. cross the left turn mark.
Now it's in the correct place in the middle, L15 - R15
